Outdoor Ceremony and Tented Reception | Wedding of Melissa + Julie

Melissa and Julie had the perfect day for their summer wedding in Marion, MA. Both the ceremony and reception were held on the grounds of Melissa's family home. When we asked the brides to describe the look and feel of their wedding they said they wanted the ocean-side celebration to be both intimate and inviting for the guests. 

The ceremony was located in one of the beautiful gardens surrounded by stone wall and trellis.The natural beauty of the area provided the perfect backdrop for the vows followed by a few formal photos with the wedding party.

For cocktail hour, guests relaxed outside atop the hill overlooking the tent and water. We used this time for a few more photos of the newlyweds down on the dock and private beach.

The tented reception decor and design was done by by East Meets West who also catered the event.

Melissa and Julie had a blast throughout the remainder of the evening alongside their guests and were all entertained by the music of "DJ Deja", Denise LaCarubba.

P+K | Style Me Pretty – Boston Wedding Professionals take the Inspiration to Reality Challenge

Recently, Person + Killian Photography was asked to be part of a team for Style Me Pretty’s “From Inspiration to Reality Challenge”. Style Me Pretty, the "Ultimate Wedding Blog" gives its loyal readers the chance to share their dream weddings on the website by creating inspiration boards.  Style Me Pretty then challenges the crème de la crème of the wedding industry to choose a winning board and bring the ideas to life. This time, they turned to a team of Boston Wedding Professionals.

The winning board: When Life Gives You Lemons

Tasha Bracken of SD Events describes the vision that our team of Boston wedding professionals saw and ran with:

The winning board selected by our group had a vintage feel with a lot of classic elegance. The combination of teal and yellow was really playful, yet sophisticated. We’re seeing a lot of vintage influences in today’s weddings.

The first vision was the location. We wanted an industrial open space with interesting architecture, brick and beams. The Loft was the perfect setting and gave us the foundation for the other elements we brought in.

For the attire, we went retro. The bride was in a classic gown from Flair Bridesmaid Boutique with a pill box veil. The inspiration from this came from classic fashion icons such as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy, Grace Kelly, etc. We went with a navy dress for the bridesmaid as to not be to “matchy” with the teal incorporated throughout the reception.

For the escort card table we took vintage 45s and “glammed them up” with silver spray paint and yellow highlights. We incorporated ostrich feathers to give a flirtatious feel.  

The table décor brings in the teal and yellow with accents of purple and fun ostrich feathers. We brought in a vintage looking linen and accented with modern pieces for juxtaposition against the other elements. With candles and hanging crystals, we wanted a feel of fun and romance.

We also incorporated music to really give the vibe an authentic feel. Music is such a big part of weddings and does factor into the décor and design elements. We were interested in seeing what the band for this couple might look like and how they would also incorporate a vintage, classic feel. We brought in a retro microphone, dressed the lead female singer in peacock feather headpiece and teal dress. The male musicians had hats or slicked back hair.

The cake from Jenny Cakes was a fabulous bright teal color with yellow accents and a playful steel gray linen accented with tulle.
